Weather hasn’t been exactly perfect, but everything says tomorrow will be amazingly good and will last this way for at least 3 days. So, the trial trip will take place as planned!<\/p>\n
Everything is ready: provisions, water, safety equipment, engine, fuel, permits… everything! I am so excited!\u00a0<\/p>\n
Skipper Alonzo will come with us to be in charge fo the vessel while Ximena and me are busy with the research. Yatzil and Kora have enjoyed sailing lately, so they will be joining the expedition too. We plan to anchor close to the port but away of the vessel passage. I decided on that as it is our first time sleeping on board and if something happens, help is really close.<\/p>\n

We are planning a visual monitoring for sea turtles and marine mammals. I spent a nice time designing the data forms we are going to use for the research. It will be nice to test them before using them in a more extensive research trip. There are always small issues that makes them tricky to use by new eyes, so this is the perfect time to put them at work.<\/p>\n
For the water, I froze a gallon of water and I will keep it at the bottom of the icebox to keep food at a nice temperature, so it lasts for 3 days in good conditions. We are not going to cook onboard, as I still haven’t installed the stove. For sure I will suffer the abstinence of coffee, but nothing that would kill me or my crew!<\/p>\n
For the first day, we’ll be going with the wind to the west. For the next two days, we’ll be tacking the wind. It takes more or less 2 hours of tacking for each hour of downwind sailing if weather conditions are as good as expected.<\/p>\n
